Daniel Salisbury
Born in Long Beach, California in the late 1950s. Growing up immersed in his family’s wood and textile activities lead naturally to studying Architecture and Design at the University of California, Davis, graduating 1982.
In 1983 he opened his Southern Oregon studio, focusing on handloomed textiles, which initially included weaving yardage for boutique designer Nikos Handwoven. Salisbury developed his fabric sensibility, incorporating studio dyed yarns and original weave patterns, to create singular wearable pieces and opulent items for the home. Over time, his interest in looped and knotted forms, and particularly the Möbius Loop, supplanted the traditional loomed work, though a textile sensibility is still foundational.
Daniel Salisbury lives in southern Oregon, where the natural world offers regular inspiration. Sometimes, he’ll be found hiking, shooting hoops with his grandson, milking the goats or playing table tennis.
